WINEMAKING NOTES: The first single-vineyard wine to debut in the Westerly portfolio: This fruit was sourced from two adjacent blocks of Bentrock Vineyard Chardonnay, located on the historic Rancho Salsipuedes. The fruit was harvested by hand into small lugs, then whole-cluster pressed and 100% barrel fermented in new 228 liter French oak barrels. The final cuvée was aged en barrique with bimonthly lees stirring for 10 months before being bottled in July 2015.
TASTING NOTES: The 2014 Westerly Bentrock Vineyard Chardonnay is a tightly knit, elegant wine that authoritatively illustrates the style of the Sta. Rita Hills. Bright, balanced acidity allied with a mouth- filling tension on the palate gives this wine razor-like precision and sharpness of focus. The bouquet is highlighted by aromas of white flowers, minerals and wet rocks- while the palate is deftly layered with flavors of stone fruits and citrus zest with a subtle element of baking spices. This wine drinks extremely well now but has great potential to positively develop in the cellar over the next 10 years.
