WINEMAKING NOTES
Sourced from select vineyards in the Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara AVA. Harvested by hand in late October of 2013, the grapes were hand-sorted, destemmed and fermented separately in both concrete and oak tanks. The wine was drained and pressed after an average of 36 days on the skins, the wine was filled into 225 liter French oak barrels, 50% of which were new. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The wine was racked to blend after 12 months and remained in barrel for a total of 26 months. Bottled unfixed and unfiltered.
TASTING NOTES
The 2013 Westerly Red exhibits dark, ripe fruits on the nose and the palate is round with a rich, exuberant juicyness. The oak is slightly forward currently, buy it integrates all with a bit of air. Quite primary and precocious in nature, this wine is a more openly-knit iteration of a classic Left Bank Bordeaux-style blend. Supple and approachable now, his wine will drink well through 2025.
